Blanchard reacts to historic win at Leicester City
Annabel Blanchard expressed her delight after Palace secured a first ever Barclays Women's Super League win, with a 2-0 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
"Yeah, it's a great feeling," she said. "We've been working really, really hard in training. Results haven’t always gone our way, but each week we've been improving our performance.
“To see it come together today was the main thing."
Reflecting on the team's tough start to the WSL, Blanchard praised the unity within the squad. She said: "It’s good when you’ve got a great group around you. The staff are always supportive.
“One result doesn’t define us – it’s a long season with plenty of games to go even after today. We won today, but the focus is now on Brighton next week."
Ending a busy stretch of games on a high note, Blanchard emphasised the importance of recovery: "It’s hard work, especially in a three-game week, but the girls have been on it with recovery and training.
“Everyone knows their roles, and the main thing now is to rest and go again next week."
Blanchard also spoke about what it means to represent Crystal Palace and the importance of the win.
"The club holds a very special place for me now, and I’m really enjoying my football here. I feel like I’m growing as a player and as a person.
“Everyone around me is supportive, and to get the win today is huge – a relief for everyone."
Palace’s next match is at home to Brighton & Hove Albion this coming Sunday (13th October, 14:00 BST kick-off), with tickets available here for the clash at the VBS Community Stadium.
