Palace Stateside: Famous faces prepare to welcome Eagles to USA

As Crystal Palace prepare to head across to the United States of America for pre-season tour, there will be plenty of famous faces keen to welcome the Eagles back across the pond…

Following a successful tour of Chicago and Detroit in 2023, Palace – collaborating with Elite Promotions Group – will once again connect with their sizeable American fanbase, who turned out in their droves to witness last summer’s exciting matches with Millionarios and Sevilla.

Palace will first travel to Annapolis – the capital of the state of Maryland, not far from Washington D.C. – to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday, 31st July (kick-off 20:00 EDT local time / 01:00 BST Thursday UK time) at the 34,000-capacity Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

Palace will then journey to Tampa, Florida, where they will face London rivals West Ham United on Saturday, 3rd August (kick-off 19:00 EDT local time / 00:00 BST Sunday UK time) at the Raymond James Stadium, which seats around 69,000 and is home to NFL outfit Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

With Wolves and West Ham also playing one another earlier in the week, the inaugural Stateside Cup trophy will then be awarded to the best-performing team across the three fixtures.

We know there will be plenty of supporters keen to glimpse Oliver Glasner’s side for the first time in the 2024/25 campaign, but who else might be tuning in Stateside?

The face of football in the United States, Rebecca Lowe will be familiar to all those who tune in to NBC each weekend to watch all the action from Selhurst Park and beyond.

Growing up a Palace fan, work commitments prevent her from visiting SE25 regularly but she told fans at the Premier League Mornings event in Nashville this year how much she misses her spiritual home.

“I miss it [Selhurst Park] so much! I can’t tell you how much I miss it! I’ve got loads of Palace friends, so it always has been and always will be a massive part of my life.

“It’s a bit tricky when you’re on air in front of all the Manchester City fans, especially as I had a big flag when we went 1-0 up!

“It is incredible! The sun is out, everyone’s come out and it is just magic.”

Also roaring on the Eagles will be Alan Roach, the voice of a very different type of football as the main announcer for the Super Bowl.

As public address announcer for the Minnesota Vikings, Colorado Avalanche and Colorado Rapids and voice of global NFL events and multiple Olympic Games, he will be familiar with any American football fans for his announcing of some of the biggest games in the sport's history.

“The ground is so classic and wonderful and I had a great time there. I’ve been a Crystal Palace supporter ever since I walked in the door!"

Palace have their share of Hollywood stars following the club, from Oscar-nominated 12 Years a Slave actor Chiwetel Ejiofor to fellow Academy Award nominee Bill Nighy.

There is also the Ted Lasso connection, with the biggest show in the US filmed at Selhurst Park, home of the fictional AFC Richmond.
