Paddy McCarthy’s Under 18 side continued their excellent start to the season with a 3-0 home victory against Coventry City.
James Daly returned to the starting line-up after a few weeks absence from the side.
Joseph Hungbo had the first chance of the game on five minutes when he showed his pace to burst clear but the City goalkeeper got down and saved at his feet.
It was not long though before the deadlock was broken when Hungbo was involved again as he got the better of his marker and made a fine run before laying the ball back to Ryan Hanson, who fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net from 20 yards on seven minutes.
The youngsters were soon increasing their advantage as Brandon Oddy was the one this making a good run from midfield and provided the perfect pass to Francis Baptiste, who made no mistake as he went round the keeper and extended the Eagles lead.
The visitors had a good spell in the game having conceded those two early goals but Matthew Funnell in the Palace goal wasn’t really tested and the lead was nearly added to a minute before the break.
Oddy got on the end of a cross from Sean Robertson but his header was cleared off the line and McCarthy’s side went into the break with a 2-0 advantage.
The second half started with the home side continuing to show their dominance as Hanson headed narrowly over the bar and after good work from Oddy, the ball fell to Baptiste but he saw his chance blocked by a City defender.
With twelve minutes remaining Daly marked his return with the final goal of the match as he headed home at the near post, picking out a cross from Hungbo perfectly.
The convincing victory means Palace have a five point lead at the top of the Southern Section Professional Development Under 18s League as their unbeaten start to the season continued.
