      Paddy McCarthy’s Under 18 side suffered a 3-1 defeat at Barnsley on Saturday morning in the game played at The Oakwell Training Ground.

      The hosts took an early advantage on just four minutes of the game as Kieran Feeney opened the scoring when a curling free-kick came back off the post and Feeney pounced on the loose ball to put the ball into the net from close range.

      Palace were given a chance to get back into the game from the penalty spot as the referee adjudged that Harry Gagen had fouled Tetteh-Quaye Addy, Sean Robertson made no mistake from the spot, even though the keeper went the right way. with his goal putting Palace back on level terms.

      It was to be the home side that went into the half time break with the lead though as a fine finish from Tommy Willard saw Barnsley once again ahead in the game. He collected the ball on the edge of the box and beat his man before firing home a low shot into the corner of the net.

      Palace’s best chance to get back on level terms in the second half saw Brandon Aveiro denied by a fine save from Henry Kendrick. Aveiro’s volley came as the 17 year old met a cross perfectly but he couldn’t convert the chance to add his name to the scoresheet.

      With ten minutes of the match remaining, captain Will Calligan converted a late opportunity to complete the victory with the Tykes moving up to sixth place in the Professional Development League table.
