However, upsets like that are noticed far beyond SE25 and the Eagles’ heroic triumph has caught people’s attention around the world. Most notably, perhaps, it caught the eye of French network Canal+ as one commentator in particular took a shining to Andros Townsend’s wonder strike.

But Townsend’s goal reached people on a more touching level closer to home, too, as both his father Troy and one young Palace fan bared their emotions following the thunderous effort after the final whistle.
Morning! So I’ve watched the goal a million times already. I mean it’s alright and that but these two images melt my heart.

If anyone knows who it is, we’ll get the shirt signed ❤️ pic.twitter.com/GgxJbx3zOg
Troy has since been put in touch with the young man’s family and is arranging to have his newly acquired shirt signed, giving him a true Palace Christmas to remember.
But it’s not just Troy in the Townsend household who expressed their joy on Saturday, and Andros joined his teammates in celebrating the result, praising the squad, visiting fans and, of course, wishing the Palace faithful a merry Christmas.
What a day.... incredible collective team performance against probably the best side I’ve ever faced.... must reproduce on Wednesday now to make sure this win isn’t wasted! 🎅🏽 🎁 ⚽️ pic.twitter.com/rRAquzAthk

Perhaps almost as remarkable as the result, though, was this knockout prediction from Lambeth-raised boxer Dillian Whyte, who backed Palace to win even before Jeffrey Schlupp gave the Eagles that huge boost of hope in the game's 33rd minute.

It wasn't just Whyte who turned his attention from the ring to the match, however, and Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge took a moment mid-interview to distract his gaze from the heavyweight fighter and express his shock about Townsend's belter.
Just seen Andros Townsend’s goal. #cpfc pic.twitter.com/mnjMptsT3y

But amongst the celebrations, joy and festive goodwill, one Palace fan was still left unhappy by the team’s performance. Here’s to hoping the squad will try harder on Boxing Day…
