With Palace teammates Ebere Eze, Dean Henderson and Adam Wharton unused substitutes on this occasion, Guéhi was handed the honour of becoming the Eagles' first Euros finalist representative, playing the full 90 minutes for the sixth time in seven matches this tournament.
The centre-back was typically solid with an important tackle on Spain's teenage sensation Yamine Lamal in the first-half, as well as a number of important challenges to handle Alvaro Morata.
There was little he could do to prevent Nico Williams placing the Spanish into a 47th-minute lead, but Guéhi was part of the nation's collective cheer when Cole Palmer equalised on 73 minutes from outside the box.
Sadly, it simply was not to be: Mikel Oyarzabal stole in after 86 minutes to give Spain an ultimately decisive lead, although Guéhi came within inches of writing the headlines when his close-range header from an injury-time set-piece beat the goalkeeper, but not Dani Olmo on the line.
The cruelty of a defeat in the final is never easy to swallow, but Guéhi, Eze, Henderson and Wharton can all take collective pride in their achievements this summer – for they have truly done Crystal Palace proud.
