Araya Dennis’ thunderous strike against Charlton Athletic at The Valley has won her the Barclays Women’s Championship Goal of the Month award.
The teenager made the Addicks pay for a half-clearance after 44 minutes in the south London derby, collecting the loose ball and – from 35 yards and with minimal backlift – firing a brilliant effort into the top corner via the underside of the bar.
Although the game ultimately ended in Palace’s first defeat of the season, Dennis’ strike was undoubtedly a highlight of the day – and sees the Eagles win back-to-back Goal of the Month awards after Annabel Blanchard claimed September’s prize.
Dennis overcame competition in a public vote from Reading’s Freya Gregory; Southampton’s Rianna Dean, Birmingham’s Martha Harris; teammate Blanchard (against London City Lionesses); Durham’s Saoirse Noonan; London City’s Lois Joel; and Charlton’s Angela Addison in the same fixture.
Next up, Palace Women host Lewes at the VBS Community Stadium on Sunday, 12th November (14:00 GMT kick-off).
